Facilitating LEAN

What is LEAN?
Jim Womack and Dan Jones two leading thinkers in the field of LEAN define the promise of lean thinking as:

“a way to specify value, line up value-creating actions in the best sequence, conduct those activities without interruption whenever someone requests them, and perform them more and more effectively. In short, lean thinking is lean because it provides a way to do more and more with less and less—less human effort, less human equipment, less time, and less space—while coming closer and closer to providing customers with exactly what they want.”

What do we need to to do become LEANer?
So far so good!
LEAN thininking is for organisations that are serious about value and about delivering service that the customer wants whilst at the same time removing waste within the system that delivers it. To get started the first step in the process is to understand the current picture: this can involve a whole series of measurements and insights into the current demand; wants, flows and pulls on the system. Once the current picture is understood what follows is the opportunity using LEAN principles and LEAN processes such as Value Stream Maps, the Seven Wastes, the '5S' to identify how the service/organisation can better satisfy customer demand whilst optimising the develivery of that service.

First steps to a LEANer Future....

FOCUS on Facilitation
facilitate this! has teamed up with leading trainers in LEAN thinking in order to offer this menu of services. We are committed to the development of LEAN thinking and to the facilitation of that thinking throughout businesses/organisations that invest in it. Many organisations fail to realise the opportunities that are inherent within LEAN as a result of a lack of investment in the facilitation skills necessary to maximise participation and engagement of the wider workforce. Their involvement in indentifying, generating and implementing opportunities to simplify and optimise service delivery is key to the success of LEAN. facilitate this! will build those skills and tools alongside those of LEAN to ensure you have a programme that develops and delivers.
